هیستروسکوپی برای تشخیص و درمان مشکلات مختلف رحمی استفاده می شود. بسته به نوع آن و شرایط موجود هیستروسکوپی می تواند تحت بی هوشی عمومی یا بی حسی موضعی انجام شود.
هیستروسکوپی تشخیصی
هیستروسکوپی تشخیصی برای معاینه داخل رحم و تشخیص مشکلات مختلف رحمی مثل علت ایجاد خونریزی های رحمی، دردهای شدید لگنی، سقط های پی در پی جنین و ناباروری استفاده می شود. هیستروسکوپی تشخیصی همچنین برای تائید نتایج دیگر تست ها مثل تست رنگی اشعه ایکس (HSG) که برای بررسی رحم و لوله های فالوپ است، استفاده می شود.
بهترین زمان برای انجام هیستروسکوپی تشخیصی در فاز پرولیفراتیو (تکثیری) چرخه قاعدگی است. هیستروسکوپی تشخیصی بین 5 تا 10 دقیقه طول می کشد.
هیستروسکوپی درمانی
هیستروسکوپی برای درمان موارد مختلفی استفاده می شود. معمولا همزمان با هیستروسکوپی تشخیصی در صورتی که وضعیت غیر معمولی تشخیص داده شود، جراحی به کمک هیستروسکوپی انجام می شود و در نتیجه از انجام جراحی دوم جلوگیری می شود. هیستروسکوپی برای موارد زیر بکار می رود:
• برداشت پولیپ ها و فیبروئیدهای رحمی (توده های غیر سرطانی رحم)
• از بین بردن چسبندگی های رحمی. این چسبندگی ها که تحت عنوان سندروم آشرمن هم خوانده می شوند، بافت های اسکاری هستند که در رحم تشکیل می شوند و می توانند موجب تغییر در چرخه قاعدگی و ناباروری شوند.
• سپتوم رحم
• درمان برخی از علل خونریزی های شدید رحمی
• برداشتن دستگاه IUD جابجا شده در رحم
فرایند درمانی به کمک هیستروسکوپی حدود 30 دقیقه تا یک ساعت طول می کشد.

Hysteroscopy is a procedure that allows your doctor to look inside your uterus in order to diagnose and treat different conditions.
Before the procedure, you may be given a medication to help you relax, or general anesthesia or local anesthesia may be used to block the pain. A hysteroscopy can take up to 30 minutes in total, although it may only last around 5-10 minutes if it’s just being done to diagnose a condition or investigate symptoms.
Diagnostic hysteroscopy
Diagnostic hysteroscopy is used to diagnose problems of the uterus such as heavy periods, unusual vaginal bleeding, postmenopausal bleeding, pelvic pain, repeated miscarriages or difficulty getting pregnant. Diagnostic hysteroscopy is also used to confirm results of other tests, such as hysterosalpingography (HSG). HSG is an X-ray dye test used to check the uterus and fallopian tubes.
Operative hysteroscopy
Operative hysteroscopy is used to correct an abnormal condition that has been detected during a diagnostic hysteroscopy. If an abnormal condition was detected during the diagnostic hysteroscopy, an operative hysteroscopy can often be performed at the same time, avoiding the need for a second surgery. During operative hysteroscopy, small instruments used to correct the condition are inserted through the hysteroscope.
Your doctor may perform hysteroscopy to correct the following uterine conditions:
• Polyps and fibroids—Hysteroscopy is used to remove these non-cancerous growths found in the uterus.
• Adhesions—Also known as Asherman’s Syndrome, uterine adhesions are bands of scar tissue that can form in the uterus and may lead to changes in menstrual flow as well as infertility. Hysteroscopy can help your doctor locate and remove the adhesions.
• Uterine Septum
• Treat some causes of heavy bleeding.
